Quirky Tour: 24 CCS Gems
last modified: Saturday, October 05, 2013 (7:50:17 PM)
It's been a while since I used this blog function. I'm still collecting, though I'm doing so on a tight budget, so updates are less frequent and less splashy (though I still find them enjoyable to plan and put up).

But I'm settling into a mindset where I expect that more of my work will be devoted to housing what I already own properly and continuing to look for ways to make my gallery easy to explore. I got some good ideas from the Anime-Beta Open House earlier this summer, both from comments and from my exploration of other largish online galleries.

One idea was to call out some "stars" or "gems" from the larger collection and put them in an introductory gallery, with links in the descriptions to the item's main page in its proper gallery. At the time of the Open House, I did a "Quirky Tour" with gems from 24 series that aren't as visited as those from other series (such as Tennimon and CCS). That got good marks from the Open Housers, so I've made that a permanent gallery at the top of my list.

And now I've added a Quirky Tour of CCS gems. It includes some "Top 50 numbers" (how could I leave out "Sakura in the Pink Kitty Suit"?) but also a lot of others that are newer or get fewer hits for some reason. And I planned it so that if you work through the 24, you get to visit every subsection of my diverse CCS holdings.

That will eventually become a permanent gallery, and I'm making plans for a "24 Tennimon Gems" that will join the others (probably in January 2014).

And, as always at the start of the month, I've given the gallery a new banner, background, and color scheme, this one playing with the spectacular sunsets we get in Cephiro at this time of year. Comments are welcomed!

gosh but I need to learn a lesson from your book, less new and more appreciation of what has already been aquired, no wonder you''re Sensei! I will always love visiting your gallery and the interesting twists and paths you have provided, and the new banner is wonderful! Autumn sunsets are just perfect. It has always been my favorite time of year.

Thanks, tegga. There really comes a time when one needs to transition from "gotta catch ''em all" to "why does my office have so many cel books and sketch boxes in it?" Enjoy the fall, even dealing with the leaves.

There are so, so many things I love about your gallery, my friend. One of them is how creative you are at coming up with new ways to display your online collection and to guide those of us visiting into every nook and cranny of your gallery. I think the ideas you''ve listed here are fantastic ones -- I may have to think about copying them one day soon, as my gallery is in sore need of an overhaul. >.O I really like the new background image. Beautiful colors and dolphins, too. Can''t go wrong with that!! :D

I''m back to comment again. I just took a fun trip through your new CCS Tour section. Fantabulous!! I did, indeed, discover a couple of gems I had forgotten you had. And it was so much fun traveling to each subsection of your CCS gallery to read more detailed information. As always, fantastic job! :)

Belated thanks for the extended visit and good words, tex: sorry to delay replying. You got your comment in while I was climbing the walls over my "Princess Tutu" talk at the American Folklore Society meeting. That went well, the drive up and back was uneventful, and I''m slowly returning to normal. I gave out a bunch of my free business cards (thanks to Avira, a decent anti-virus service) and raised a lot of consciousnesses about folklore in and about anime.

New format coming in a week, and an update probably early December. Yes, more CCS to come, along with a new "Golden Age" gallery. (Trivia quiz: which series did Hisayuki Toriumi and Toshiyasu Okada team up on just before they did the huge international hit "Mysterious Cities of Gold"?)
