Cel/Sketch Autographs.....thoughts? :)
last modified: Monday, June 02, 2008 (3:58:57 AM)
(On vacation on the other side of the country at the moment, so my internet access is a bit limited at the moment =w=;; )

Anyhow, I've recently gotten some cels & sketches signed by the character's voice actors (dub, mostly), and I was wondering what you guys think. :)

Do you think that getting a cel/sketch signed INCREASES the value, or DECREASES it?
^_^

(Just curious as to what others think...I'll probably never let go of a signed cel because of the sentimental value, but I'm just wanting to get some opinions on the idea. ^^)

Later! :D

PS--
....Besides, it's always fun to see the actors' reaction to them. XD I thought I was going to have to PRY my Requiem douga from Greg Ayres... <3

Hi,

Personally I would hesitate buying a signed cel... especially if signed by dub as you stated. If it was signed by the original voice actor I might consider it. As for the cel value, I''m not sure if the voice actor''s sig will raise its value... the character designers sig on the other hand might be more interesting :)

But that''s just my thought ^^.
Anywayz, keep up the good work !

I actually have not bought a cel I liked because of a signature on it. It is best when you get the signature on a separate layer... that is just me though.

Mm....I guess it depends on who signs it. But on the side of caution (and that an accident does not happen where the signer accidentally signs on an important part of the pieces, if possible use another layer) But if you can''t and the signer is super special awesome, make him sign all over the thing ^_^

The smartest thing to do is get the VA to sign a separate sheet of acetate to lay over the top of the cel. Getting VA signatures is always iffy, because what if the potential buyer doesn''t watch dubs (or subs)? They aren''t going to want to shell out big $$$ for something they feel is ''ruined''.

I personally enjoy signed cels/sketches but *only* if its the original seiryuu or character designer/mangka. Not director, dub, etc.

I concur with other''s thoughts that its soleyy lies in the customer''s tastes-- I dont think there is any solid ''yes'' or ''no'' as to whether it boosts the value.

If you buy something wth the intention of selling, best to get it on a layer. ^_~

The important issue is value to the present collector. If it enhances the value of the item in your eyes (i.e., makes you want to frame it), then do it. As you say, the moment when the person sees the art is itself priceless. (And the character exists only as art, so the image on acetate or paper IS Inuyasha, Kenshin, Sailor Moon, etc., not a drawing of the character. It''s always interesting to see an actor confront the reality.)
